Privacy Policy

This explains what information we collect when you use Desk Designables, why we use it and what control you have over it.

Who we are

Desk Designables sells desk mats, coasters, wallpapers and desk accessories online.

We are the data controller for the personal information described here. If you have a question about privacy you can reach us through our contact form.

Information we collect

  • Account information — your name, email address and password when you create an account.
  • Order and delivery information — what you bought, your delivery and billing address, phone number if you give one, and your order history.
  • Payment information — handled by our payment providers. Card numbers are never stored by us or on this website.
  • Messages you send us — anything you include in the contact form or an email.
  • Technical and usage information — basic information your browser sends, and, where you have agreed to optional cookies, information about how the site is used.

Shopify's role

Our shop, checkout, customer accounts and order records run on Shopify. When you buy from us, Shopify processes your order and customer information on our behalf as our processor, under its own security and data protection commitments. Payments are taken through Shopify’s payment processing, which handles your card details directly.

Cookies and analytics

We use strictly necessary cookies to run the shop — keeping your basket, keeping you signed in and keeping the site secure. These can’t be switched off.

Optional analytics and marketing cookies are only used if you agree to them in the cookie banner, and nothing optional is loaded before you choose. You can change your mind at any time using the Cookie Settings link in the footer. See our Cookie Policy for the detail.

Email and marketing

We only send marketing emails to people who have asked for them. Creating an account or placing an order does not sign you up. Every marketing email has an unsubscribe link, and you can also ask us to remove you at any time.

Emails about an order you’ve placed — confirmations, dispatch notices, download links — are part of the service and are sent regardless.

Why we use your information

  • To take and fulfil your order, and to handle returns and refunds (contract).
  • To run your account and any Designables Club membership (contract).
  • To answer your questions (legitimate interests).
  • To keep the site secure and prevent fraud (legitimate interests).
  • To send marketing emails and use optional cookies (consent).
  • To meet accounting and tax obligations (legal obligation).

Who we share it with

We share only what is needed, with: our shop and payment platform; delivery carriers; print and fulfilment partners who make or dispatch the item you ordered; and our email and hosting providers. Where an order is fulfilled by a supplier, they receive the delivery details required to send it and nothing more.

We do not sell your personal information.

How long we keep it

Order and transaction records are kept for as long as tax and accounting law requires. Account information is kept while your account is open. Marketing consent records are kept until you unsubscribe, plus a short period afterwards so we know not to email you. Contact messages are kept only as long as needed to deal with the enquiry.

Security

The site is served over an encrypted connection, access to customer information is limited to the people who need it, and payment details never reach our systems. No system is perfect, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

  • ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
  • have inaccurate information corrected;
  • ask us to delete information we no longer need to keep;
  • object to or restrict certain uses;
  • withdraw consent for marketing or optional cookies at any time;
  • ask for your information in a portable format.

To use any of these, contact us and we’ll respond within one month. If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled it, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we use personal information we’ll update this page, and tell you where the change is significant.
